Ruislip, Northwood and Eastcote Local History Society
Our speaker for February is Robert Stephenson who is a City of London Guide and historian of London. Robert will be telling us about the long and colourful history of Temple Bar, the only surviving gateway into the City of London. Visitors are welcome (£3 donation). Michael Sobell House – Firewalk Challenge
Michael Sobell Hospice are pleased to announce that our Firewalk Challenge will return to the Hospice on Friday, 21st March. Anyone interested should sign up by visiting our website https://www.harlingtonhospice.org/firewalk-challenge/ - it will cost £25 to take part and we do ask each participant to commit to raising a minimum of £75 each for our Inpatient Unit at Michael Sobell House. Eastcote House Gardens, book and plant sale
The Friends of Eastcote House gardens are holding their first sale of the year, with plants and books on sale at the gardeners compound and crafts and publications on sale in the Stables building. Also the historic dovecote will be open to visitors.

Wartime Eastcote, 80 years after VE Day
The Friends of Eastcote House Gardens will host an exhibition by the Ruislip, Northwood and Eastcote local history society to celebrate the 80th anniversary of VE Day. The Royal British Legion, Eastcote branch will have a stand and local history publications and second hand books on WW1 and WW2 will be on sale.

Prompt use of defibrillators can increase survival rates to over 50% in cases of cardiac arrest. There are over 100,000 defribillator machines now available around the country but most of us would not know how to use them. St John Ambulance are running a free 1 hour training session hosted by St Matthew’s RC church, 32 Hallowell Road, Northwood. If you are interested, please contact Terry—TP.Sullivan@outlook.com. Meeting at the Woodland Centre, next to the cafe by the beach at Ruislip Lido, come and join Ruislip Woods Trust on a bat walk. Cash donation £3 - for the loan of the bat detectors. Payable on the night. NB: If it rains within 2 hours of the start time the walk won't take place as the bats will not come out.
