Tuesday, April 21 @ 8:00 pm - 9:30 pm
For the last meeting of our Spring season we welcome the author and historian Adrian Waddingham who will relate the remarkable story of “Nicholas Breakspear, the English Pope”. Overlooked for centuries, Nicholas Breakspear’s achievements outshone those of his contemporary, the martyr Thomas Becket. Born around 1100 in Bedmond, in the parish of Abbots Langley in Hertfordshire, into poverty and probably illegitimate, Breakspear rose to become the only Englishman to ascend the throne of Saint Peter, ruling over the papal states as Adrian IV.
Visitors are welcome (£3 donation). Any changes to these arrangements will be posted on the RNELHS website. For further information please contact the Membership Secretary at membership@rnelhs.uk
