London School of Economics survey on housing density

We have been asked by at team at the LSE for their support with a survey (this was also featured on our website last month):

It is hard to find land in London to build on. One suggestion is to increase density – to allow more to be built on a piece of land. To this end, my colleagues and I at the London School of Economics have put together a survey to better understand what Outer London residents think about this.

Link to the survey: https://urban-experiment.com/share/jzx8JB

The survey can be accessed by clicking on the link and then, after having read the instructions, by clicking ‘Continue’.  It consists of two parts. The first is a short questionnaire and the second contains a series of images for the participant to respond to. It should take about 4-6 minutes to complete. More detailed information, including a consent form, can be found on the survey’s introduction page. Participants are encouraged to complete the survey by 14 June. Responses will be anonymous. If there are any technical questions or issues, please feel free to email: j.g.karlsson@lse.ac.uk

Your Residents’ Association Needs You

Eastcote Residents’ Association (ERA) has been in continuous existence and “your voice in local affairs” for 90 years, so has a great deal of experience behind it.  The work of ERA is mainly carried out by a small committee and the Road Stewards.

The committee members and Road Stewards are all volunteers and yes, you’ve guessed it, you can never have too many volunteers! Modern life is ever busier – the more volunteers we have, the less arduous and time consuming the task.

Could you give some time, however little, to volunteer, either as a Road Steward, to help an existing committee member or even to take on a role of your own? Perhaps you have a particular area of interest, would like to help with the newsletter, take meeting notes, or have an organisational skill to offer? Please take a couple of minutes to think about the work we do and then, if you would like to join us or discuss this further send an email to chairman@eastcotera.co.uk.

Eastcote Residents Association update

ERA has historically been about face-to-face contact. Road Stewards talking to their neighbours, meetings and events.

The pandemic has led to a fundamental re-think of how to continue for the time being, so please visit us online.

If you have some time and would like to help our local community in any way, please contact us at chairman@eastcotera.co.uk

If you are willing, please click here to pay your £2 subscriptions by direct debit as we are currently unable to collect in person .

ERA subscriptions

Eastcote Residents Association is adapting to the new world we find ourselves in.  Some things haven’t changed – we continue to represent residents for example around flood action, HS2 works, Planning matters and much much more.

Some things are changing – most notably that our Road Stewards are maintaining social distancing and so we are having to adapt to make use of virtual meetings and more online based interactions.

If you are an ERA member then you can help your road steward by simply clicking the button to set up an annual Direct Debit for your £2 subscription:  Direct Debit

You can also help by encouraging people you know to subscribe to our weekly emails, and, if they are not already a member, to join so that we can continue to represent and support Eastcote Residents.

Heath Robinson Watercolours

A DELIGHTFUL NEW EXHIBITION AT THE HEATH ROBINSON MUSEUM UNTIL 24 NOVEMBER

A delightful exhibition of watercolours painted by the internationally known artist Heath Robinson has opened at the Heath Robinson Museum.

Heath Robinson trained as an artist at the Royal Academy Schools and always saw himself as an artist. He earned his living as an illustrator and cartoonist – he is still better known for his drawings of complicated machines for performing simple tasks – but he would spend much of the limited spare time he had either drawing or painting in watercolours. His children remembered him on holiday at the seaside, dressed in suit, collar and tie, setting up his easel on the beach or in a country lane to paint the scene before him.

When painting for pleasure he was able to indulge his love of landscape and seascape or simply experiment with light, colour and movement, adopting a much freer style, executing sensitive impressionistic watercolour sketches. Even so, although these pictures are mostly different from his commercial work, they are immediately recognisable as his.
These paintings were not exhibited during the artist’s lifetime, and this is the first exhibition devoted to them.

ABOUT THE MUSEUM

The Heath Robinson Museum, is a serious museum with a smile on its face. A permanent gallery allows visitors to explore Heath Robinson’s life and artistic development through the gallery timeline, original artworks and interactive exhibits. A further gallery holds special exhibitions which change every three months showcasing selections from the museum collection and other renowned artists and illustrators. An activity studio hosts workshops and has drop-in activities for children.
