Harrow Choral Society’s Christmas Celebration
Saturday, December 12 @ 5:30 pm

Harrow Choral Society’s ever popular Christmas Celebration concert in Harrow School’s Speech Room will be held on Saturday 12th December at 5:30 pm. The concert, which always makes a wonderful start to the Christmas season, will feature choir Christmas music both traditional and new as well as audience participation carols.
One of the pieces which is new to the choir is Sarah Quartel’s arrangement of the Huron Carol, renamed Iesous ahatonnia, which sets new texts by Wendat poet Andrée Levesque Sioui and invites choirs and audiences to learn from the past while working to shape a better future. The Wendat people, also known historically as the Huron, are an Indigenous Iroquoian-speaking people originally from the Wendat Confederacy in present-day southern Ontario, Canada. The programme also includes In the Stillness, a beautiful carol by Sally Beamish with words by Katrina Shepherd. The music and words perfectly capture the hushed atmosphere of a snowbound parish church on Christmas Eve, moving from the winter landscape to the imagery of the stable and the birth of a child.
The performance will be conducted by Music Director Joe Tobin and, in addition to the Byron Ensemble, the choir will be accompanied on the organ by composer and arranger, Paul Ayres.
