HS2 Tunneling incidents

HS2 ANPR cameras

HS2 are installing ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) cameras at locations across the borough of Hillingdon to monitor its own lorry movements.

These cameras will be configured to only capture data related to HS2 lorries, no other vehicle data will be captured or stored and the cameras will be clearly marked ‘HS2’.

The cameras are being installed at all HS2 site entrance and exits in Hillingdon and at the following locations:

- Moorhall Road
- Field End Road
- Victoria Road
- Woodstock Drive
- Ickenham Road
- Long Lane
- Swakeleys Road
- Station Approach/Long Drive
- West End Road
- Breakspear Road South LP2A
- Swakeleys Roundabout
- Harvil Road

Please note that the TBM conveyor is due to come into operation by the end of February 2023. Until then, HS2 need to move more material away from the West Ruislip portal to allow the TBMs to continue their work. Some of this material will be temporarily stored on sites around the area. The material will be delivered to two locations:
– area north of the Chiltern Line, west of Breakspear Road South at site at Gate 2
– area south of the Copthall Covert at site at Gate 1 on Harvil Road

At present, the only way they can do this is by using lorries to transport the soil from the TBMs. As a result, there will be additional lorry movements on roads around West Ruislip. However, they will adhere to the total 550 movements per day in Hillingdon. The affected routes are Breakspear Road South crossing, Harvil Road, Swakeleys Road and Ickenham High Road. This means the route is from Swakeleys roundabout and Ickenham village to West Ruislip portal site, from there the material will be transported via the haul road at Breakspear Road South to gate 2 and 1 on Harvil Road.

Emergency road works

Cadent Gas have been granted an Emergency Application by Harrow Council following a major gas leak on the Uxbridge Road at Pinner Green. Consequently there are four way traffic lights at the junction of Uxbridge Road and Pinner Hill Road whilst the repair work is carried out with the potential for severe disruption and lengthy traffic queues. Please avoid the area if you can; the work is due for completion by 2 August

Have your say on plans to extend ULEZ

Have your say on our proposals to improve air quality

We are consulting on proposals to extend the Ultra-Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) London-wide on 29 August 2023.

Drivers of non-compliant vehicles would pay £12.50 per day to drive within Greater London.

We are also seeking views on changes to Auto Pay, penalties for non-payment for the ULEZ and Congestion Charge, and changes to the Mayor’s Transport Strategy.

Additionally, we’d like to hear your views on how we shape the future of road user charging.

The consultation ends 29 July 2022.
